Viscosity Standards

We offer a range of polar Viscosity Standards, which are ideal for calibrating our Viscosity Fluorescence Probes. We offer 3 Viscosity Standards Kits, ideal for calibration over 3 different viscosity ranges. Each kit contains 6 vials with ≈ 7.5 ml of polar solution in each.

Low-Viscosity Range Kit (1 – 1.3 cP)

This 6-vial kit is ideal for calibrating against aqueous media.

Cellular Viscosity

Viscosity is a well-known and fundamental physical parameter that influences a wide range of diffusion processes in biology. The distribution of intracellular viscosity is highly heterogeneous with local microviscosities in cells varying from as much as 1 to 400 cP1,2. It is known that changes in intracellular viscosity are related to several diseases, such as atherosclerosis3, Alzheimer's disease4 and diabetes5. Ursa BioScience™ offers a unique set of fluorescent viscosity probes, which show a direct correlation between there fluorescent intensity (and lifetime) with solvent viscosity. Subsequently, our probes are ideal for measuring either intra or inter cellular viscosity, over very broad viscosity ranges. In addition, we also offer viscosity probes which can readily label biological thiol groups, enabling specific and local viscosities to be determined.
