Glucose Probes

Ursa BioScience’s Glucose probes are water/MeOH soluble and are ideally suited for physiological glucose determination in blood, tears, interstitial fluid, serum and aqueous humor. The probes are ideal for dissolution into plastic membranes, such as PolyVinyl Alcohol (PVA), for glucose sensing, such as in a contact lens. 

Ursa offers 2 classes of Glucose probes, Mellitus Violet™ and Mellitus Blue™. Mellitus Violet™ probes are readily excited at 320 nm with emission ≈ 430 nm.

The Mellitus Blue™ glucose probes are also water/MeOH soluble and can be excited in the range 300-400 nm, with a slightly longer wavelength emission than Mellitus Violet™, ≈ 460 nm. Mellitus Blue™ shows a slightly better water solubility than Mellitus Violet™.

Ursa also offers, 2 control fluorophores for both the Mellitus Blue™ and Mellitus Violet™ fluorophore range. Mellitus Violet C™ and Mellitus Blue C™ have the same excitation and emission wavelengths as the parent compounds, but do not chelate glucose, making them ideal for researchers wishing to study the potential influence of other analytes on the fluorescence properties of the glucose-chelating dyes, without switching wavelengths, filters, instrumentation etc.

All our glucose and glucose control compounds / fluorophores are sold dry, and are simply reconstituted by adding water/buffer/MeOH. One vial of our probe will typically allow for 10 glucose or control-like measurements to be undertaken, when further diluted into 3 cm³ volumes within a cuvette.
